Spring Open Textbook Faculty Peer Review Event - March 12th, Noon to 2pm in SMN 130

The College of Marin is hosting a OER peer review event through the Open Textbook Network

On Tuesday, March 12th, COM’s Zero Textbook Task Force is hosting two workshops from the Open Textbook Network to raise awareness for open textbooks among faculty and provide support staff resources to support faculty interesting in adopting an openly licensed textbook. Faculty are cordially invited to attend the workshop on March 12th, from 12pm to 2pm in SMN 130. This session will be recorded for later viewing if you can’t attend but in order to be eligible for the stipend, you must attend in person. If you have a class that conflicts with the workshop, sub requests will be honored.

Before attending the workshop, I want to make sure you understand how you will be eligible for the $200 stipend. Eligibility for the stipend requires you to register for the workshop by RSVP-ing to me: srahman@marin.edu . Please RSVP by 5:00pm February 25th.

The next step is to attend in person and then complete a brief open textbook review. Unfortunately, there are not quality open textbooks for every subject and course. You will be eligible for a stipend if you review an open textbook from the Open Textbook Network Library that would be appropriate for a class you teach or for your discipline. If there are no appropriate textbooks in the Open Textbook Library, there may be other options that we could consider for applicants. We will explore these at the workshop. Please know that for some applicants there will be no appropriate open textbook, and, therefore, some participants will not be eligible for a stipend but we will do our best to assist you in finding something in your field to review. We still encourage you to attend – there is a lot to learn about open textbooks, and new open textbooks are being developed all the time.

If you are normally in class at this time, you may request coverage for the class. All Deans have already been asked to support faculty to be able to attend.
